Current role

This year I have taken on the role as acting Deputy Head Teacher maintaining my lead in English across both schools. Included in my role as deputy, I have responsibility for: the Creative Curriculum, Traveller Education, NQT mentoring, monitoring of Pupil Premium, Teaching Assistant CPD and management and assessment tracking (principally English). I also teach across the school on a regular basis (weekly teaching level 5/6 English booster group).

Summary of previous experience

Formerly a PE, MFL Co-ordinator and student mentor, I became lead in English 3 years ago. The main focus of role was to continue to drive high attainment and progress in all areas of teaching and learning of English across the Federation. Within this role, I have supported both schools (Infant and Junior) to plan, teach, evaluate and develop all aspects of English, actively encouraging creative links in other areas of the curriculum. Some of the projects I have undertaken include: whole school INSET for delivering successful phonics teaching from EYFS to KS2; phonics training for other partnership schools; phonics intervention programmes and monitoring; improving English grammar knowledge and application; introduction of the new curriculum (2014) for English; planning & delivering insets linked to new Medium Term Plans for the new programme of study for English including the grammar, punctuation & spelling requirements (GPS); supporting Year groups with planning and assessment; conducting learning walks, book and work scans, team teaching; NQT and student mentoring/coaching; moderation and evaluation of teaching with the leadership team and moderating writing in KS1 & KS2.
